Interfaith Partnerships
I.I.T. became a member of the LA Faith-based Family Services, a coalition between Faith groups and the Torrance Office of the Department of Children and Family Services. As part of this coalition, we attend monthly meetings and contribute to the needs of families in the South Bay. This includes translator services, advice, grocery needs, and mentoring. As part of this process, Athia Carrim offers counseling to girls in individual and group sessions at Laurel Pointe apartment buildings in Hawthorne.
Athia Carrim worked with Ferial Masry, founder of the Cross-Cultural Coalition of Middle Eastern Women, to organize the first Women’s conference based on cultural unity at the CSU Dominguez Hills. Known as:” The Many Faces of American Middle Eastern Women”, the conference was held in March, 2012, in commemoration of Women’s Month. Athia Carrim opened the conference with a presentation of “Muslim Women’s Accomplishments in the World Today”. This partnership involves collaborative changes and educates about the success and challenges Muslim women face in America today.
Since 2007, I.I.T. has been hosting information night sessions on “Human Trafficking” with Homeland Security. Presentations are made by ICE Agent Rohida Khan, and numerous tips and information is given to recognize and combat this heinous crime in the community.
I.I.T. has worked with the Jacobs Foundation and Sister Karima Montgomery to obtain food from Food banks for the hungry and homeless. I.I.T. is now a member of Food and Things, an organization formed to network for food and basic necessities for the hungry and indigent in Los Angeles.
I.I.T. has also partnered with Midnight Mission in downtown LA to feed the homeless every fortnightly.
I.I.T. is a proud sponsor of the “Annual Interfaith Peace Pilgrimage” held at Mt. Baldy every year. Prayers and words of Peace are offered by the Imam.
I.I.T. participates in the annual South Bay Interfaith Thanksgiving Service every year. Imam is called upon as the Muslim representative. In 2011, I.I.T. joined hands with City of Refuge Ministries in Gardena to feed the poor and homeless hot Thanksgiving dinners.
